Modular Blockchain

A modular blockchain is a blockchain that performs only some of the four components of a monolithic blockchain (consensus, data availability, execution, and settlement). Modular blockchain stacks separate these four functions across more than one layer, aiming to improve security, scalability, and decentralization and their tradeoffs, a set of tradeoffs referred to as the 'scalability trilemma'.
