Front Running

Front running is an opportunistic transaction anticipating a known future transaction that will favorably affect the first or 'front running' transaction.

Some on-chain (or off-chain, such as on a centralized exchange) front running techniques are directly analogous to traditional stock front running. In contrast, others such as 'sandwich attacks', targeted liquidations, and other forms of Miner (or Maximal) Extractable Value are unique to on-chain financial systems.
