Metadata

Metadata is a type of data that provides information about other data. Metadata facilitates electronic communication for people, applications, and computer systems. For example, an application might want to know the format of a photo, such as a JPEG, or a user might want to know who a message is from and when it was composed. All of this information would be considered metadata.
