Fiat Currency

A fiat currency is legal tender issued and controlled by a central government, typically not backed by physical commodities and often represented as physical cash or electronic credit. Rather than deriving their value from physical assets, such as precious metals, fiat currencies depend on their respective governments and economies and are subject to supply changes and other decisions that can affect their value.
