Three major development teams—Eclair, c-Lightning, and Lightning Labs—disagree on a proposal to increase the network’s default fee. While fee increases are broadly seen as necessary, Lightning Labs’ CEO Elizabeth Stark and CTO Olaoluwa Osuntokun object to the proposal’s approach, on grounds that the default fee should be determined by node operator choices and market forces, rather than developers. Proponent’s of the fee increase include Rusty Russel of c-Lightning and Pierre-Marie Padiou, CEO of Eclair’s parent company, who wish to spur Lightning’s fee market’s development.
