April 23, 2020 Judge Hellerstein denies Kik’s motions.

In the ongoing SEC v. Kik Interactive Inc court case, the presiding judge, Alvin K. Hellerstein, denied Kik’s motions for discovery and for reconsideration, which were based on Kik’s arguments that the legal definition of an “investment contract” is unclear, thus does not apply to the ‘kin’ token offering. Kik faces legal action over the $100 million raised through its initial coin offering. In a subsequent development, the SEC requested that Judge Hellerstein depose seven individuals, including Kik’s former VP of product Ilan Leibovich, kin app developer Luc Hendriks, and investor William Mougayar.
