Sanjay Dhotre, India’s minister of state for electronics and IT, announced that the government is drafting a ‘National Level Blockchain Framework’, with blockchain technology identified as having potential applications in governance, banking and finance, and cyber security. Despite the interest in the technology, cryptocurrencies continue to face regulatory challenges in India—in July, the government proposed fines and jail time for cryptocurrency use, and the Reserve Bank of India has ordered banks not to service cryptocurrency companies.
