August 18, 2019 Both implementations of the privacy-focused cryptocurrency protocol MimbleWimble, Grin and Beam, saw significant updates surrounding ASIC mining this week.

Obelisk, a major ASIC manufacturer, cancelled production of an ASIC miner citing low demand and lagging price. Following a spike in early 2019, Grin’s mining difficulty has remained relatively flat since March. Further, Beam conducted a hard fork, altering the mining algorithm in an attempt to discourage ASIC activity.
