December 4, 2019 Bank of France to test a digital currency in 2020.

The bank’s governor, Fran├žois Villeroy de Galhau, announced at a conference Wednesday the the bank will “…launch a call for projects before the end of the first quarter of 2020.” The announcement came shortly after France’s Minister of the Economic and Finance, Bruno Le Maire, urged for the creation of a “public digital currency” at a European Union (EU) meeting.
