October 17, 2019 Bank of Canada is exploring issuing a digital currency.

Journalists obtained an internal presentation for Governor Stephen Poloz, which highlighted several considerations for the central bank in potentially issuing its own cryptocurrency. One key issue is international cooperation and interoperability with other central banks and their own potential stablecoins; the Bank of Canada conducted a digital currency transaction with Singapore in May. Other central banks, including China, Sweden, Singapore, and Switzerland, are in various stages of research and development for issuing a cryptoasset.
