January 9, 2020 $15m in Tether moved to Blockstream’s Liquid sidechain through an atomic swap.

Liquid is a federated sidechain, operated by Bitcoin developer Blockstream and a consortium of exchanges. Previously, asset issuance on Liquid has primarily been BTC. The Liquid network uses confidential transactions to hide details of fund movements, offering an additional degree of privacy for Tether movements relative to its Omni or Ethereum versions. This is a continuation of Tether moving to and between alternative blockchains from the original Omni; over $2b in Ethereum-based Tether has been minted in the past year, representing a majority of the total supply.
